Community Bible Church exists to glorify God, by leading an ever increasing number of people to genuinely Love God and others, continually Grow in Christ-likeness, joyfully Serve God and others, and to faithfully Go and make disciples both here in Norfolk and around the world.
Community Bible Church exists to glorify our God through faithful evangelism of the lost, through biblical discipleship of the saved, and through Christ-exalting worship and fellowship.
As I announced in our morning service, August 5, this week I dismissed our Hispanic pastor, David Jaraba, for moral failure. His actions have affected people presently in our church and those who have moved away. He was confronted on Friday evening and was repentant and broken. He is receiving help and will face the consequences of his choices.
Sin comes with a price, and justice must be served. As soon as the situation was brought to my attention, I contacted law enforcement officers. In the last couple days, I have initiated multiple follow-ups with varied law enforcement personnel and have sought advice from wise counsellors. I have tried to personally contact those that I know have been deeply hurt, offering support and prayer.
I hope you, also, will pray for those affected by his actions. They are not at fault. Pray for healing of heart, mind, and emotions. Innocence was betrayed by someone who was trusted. Pray for grace and strength to move beyond. This is not something that will go away overnight. Pray for David's wife and daughter, as well as other family members. They are hurting. Their world has been turned upside down. They need our love and support. Scripture commands us to "weep with those who weep." This is a time for that.
May I also say, if there is anyone else who has silently suffered abuse, please tell someone. Do not stop telling people until someone listens. There are people who want to help and support you. You do not need to suppress this as if you are the guilty one. You are not.
At this point things are in the hands of the law enforcement officials. We condemn and denounce the actions of David. Yet we remember that Community Bible Church is a body of sinners saved only by God's grace. It is God's church and it is in His power to protect and keep it, despite these circumstances. We as a church family need to bind together and weather this storm with faith in our God and trust in His providence to work all things to His glory. Scripture reminds us that, "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. For I am the Lord your God."
